[National Taiwan University Children's Hospital] DIY Manual Claw Machine

Apr 2, 2024

The "I Am the Future" youth volunteer team was established with the primary goal of serving children. In response to concerns about the excessive and inappropriate use of 3C products among kids and the challenges posed by a declining birth rate, the team aims to ignite and nurture children's creativity through engaging activities. One such activity is the creation of a manual claw machine. While building this machine may seem simple, it offers valuable lessons in mathematics, such as understanding the center of a circle (drilling holes in a cup) and equal parts (creating paws).

The game encourages children to actively participate, engage in hands-on activities, and experience the satisfaction of seeing their creations in action. The ultimate goal is to enable children to "participate" in meaningful activities, "interact" with others, "experience" the process of making something themselves, and "feel" the joy of their accomplishments, such as using their homemade claw machines to pick up candies or cookies. The workshop culminates in a celebration where children enjoy the gifts collected by their own creations, making for a joyful and memorable Children's Day.
